Description
On March 21, 2025, a major fire at an electrical substation near Heathrow Airport caused a significant power outage, causing the temporary closure of the airport and affecting more than 1,300 flights and approximately 200,000 passengers. The incident highlighted critical vulnerabilities in the airport's energy infrastructure and business continuity plans. UK authorities have launched investigations to assess the resilience of the UK's national energy system and prevent such disruptions in the future. The article aims to answer how the 2025 Heathrow Airport incident has influenced the resilience of aviation infrastructure and emergency management strategies in the UK.
